The photo above is a lovely image of my young Grandparents. They look so cheeky and content :O)
The sad part is my Grandma, at the amazing age of 98, passed away this morning. The happy part is she will be reunited with my Grandad. She's waited a long time.
My Grandma loved dolls, and she had a big collection. When I saw her in January, she specifically told me to take the doll my Grandad had bought her (actually, he bought most of them, but there is one she especially wanted me to have) I agreed, but not until she was reunited with Grandad. I will be back in England shortly....

And the chick above is the WIP of my shrine for the Art Auction - I tried to capture the 'essence' of Princess Diana, but it didn't quite work!
I love brown eyes, and prefer my dolls to have brown eyes, but just this once, I went with blue, just because Diana had blue eyes!
I think my next doll will represent my Grandma Ivy.... mmmm, better find a green sweater to cut up, since I still can't knit :O)

ReplyDeleteThat was a beautiful picture and post. Your grandma and grandfather are very proud of you I suspect. Your dolls have grown into amazingly beautiful pieces. You were meant to create and sculpt dolls. I would say I am sorry but as you said she has waited a long time to be with the love of her life. She will always be with you and your love of dolls.

I'm the other way... love making green or blue eyes...not much for brown.... weird hey? do you have brown eyes? .... I have blue.... maybe we make our own eyes..colour wise.
So sorry for your loss, Abi.
ReplyDeleteSo Sorry about your grandma. And she was 98, wow. She and your grandpa look so happy in that picture. Your dolls are really starting to show your own unique style. I can't wait to see your shrine. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteSweet Abi,
ReplyDeleteyour cherished photo expresses such a young sweet love, I love how they are sitting, it is lovely and intimate. I love the photo. I can see them together now.
So sorry for your loss.

Abi,
ReplyDeleteYour doll is just lovely. I think you resemble your grandmother...what a "dish!!" I'm so sorry to hear of her passing, but I do know she's happy now that she's reunited with your grandfather. My grandmother passed away many years ago at the age of 93, my grandfather passed 10 years before that. I still miss her but try to keep her sensibilities alive. Actually, she was one of the funniest women I ever knew and was so elegant. She "held court" lying in her bed on her stomach, cigarette in hand and ashes falling onto the beautiful bedspread!!! She was surrounded by beautiful things, but still didn't take herself seriously at all.
Again, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Take care and God bless.
xxoo,
Georgina
That is a very special photograph! So sorry for your loss. What joy she must have taken in having a grand-daughter who is a dollmaker!
