First Cloth Art Doll of the Year....

And possibly the last! LOL
Actually, I quite enjoyed making her.  Working with cloth is a particular challenge for me, as is painting faces.  I could sure use the practice. But, for now, this will do...
Oh, she doesn't have a name - suggestions greatly appreciated.  She sort of looks a bit French to me. If Patti is happy with her, she will be attending the 'Road to California' quilting exhibition.
The quilt she is taking is made by my friend, quilter extraordinaire Sarah (small town sarah/anyone can quilt) No-one told me how difficult quilting is! I'm not a meticulous person, and I think you have to be, to do a terrific quilt job.

The doll pattern is one of Patti Medaris Culeas. I did enlarge the head a little. The feet are a perfect size for MSD shoes.  I didn't realise that until I made this one.
I can knock two items off my list - this doll, and I booked my first lesson in Yoga...

  1. Oh! she is lovely. Many years ago I used to make some cloth dolls, mainly just for my nieces. They were much more primitive. (one had a screw for a nose!) but your doll is so beautiful.
    Wow.
Yoga? I've been "thinking" about taking some lessons myself. Then again, I think about a lot of things.
But it is a very wise thing to do, especially while you are young so that you will be flexible later in life.

  4. She is gorgeous! You think you don't have the stamina for quilting but I have no skills whatsoever compared to your gorgeous Blythe doll clothes or your doll. I however love patchworking and quilting. All the best with getting Genevieve (?) to the show.

    1. I love the name and the film! I had to call her something quickly, so she has become Couette, which is french for quilt! its also pretty close to Colette, the first suggestion I had, funnily enough! Will save Amelie for another doll :)

  9. Hi Abbi, I haven't visited blogland for a while, I was happy to see your new doll.
I went on a doll making cruise last year with Patti, I learned a lot and made some good friends.
I am wondering if your doll went to the show? How did you get involved with that?
I totally know how you feel about about looking at past dolls I made.
I guess that's really a good thing though, it just means we've progressed.
At the time they were created, they were our best attempt, we pursued and got better!
This doll is lovely. A few months ago, I bought your Alice, with the tea cup.
I love her, but love her more cause you made her. I think when we create these little
dolls, so much of "us" goes into them. So, you get a little part of the creator.
I hope you don't ask who I bought her from, I can't remember. Someone,
who was a collector, she also sold a Black Eyed Suzie doll!
Keep creating, you are a special doll maker, your dolls
really are so pretty. I love my Alice.

    1. Thanks Jan! so lovely to hear from you :)
I remember Alice was for sale a while back - I didn't know if she had been bought, or not. She was one of my first dolls!
I bet the cruise was great! I'd love to go on one with Patti -
Yes, the doll went to the show - I hadn't made one in such a long time, but it's made me want to make more I think. Patti asked If I would make one -perhaps she heard rumblings that I wanted to make a doll, but needed motivating :)

I hope all is well with you Jan. Thanks for visiting.
