Down on the Ranch...

We have new feet!  Stella the Shih Tzu and Ghost the Flame Point Siamese (very posh eh!)

Stella was picked up off the road yesterday by my husband, Jesse - she was munching on a rancid deer carcass, she was covered from head to toe in dirt and smelt so bad!  Her fur was so matted, it was harbouring a million fleas and ticks - no joke - she stood patiently in the bath for an hour whilst I bathed her, and cut out all the matted fur.  Like me, she no longer has long hair (not that mine was matted with fleas!!tee hee) I wished I had thought about taking a 'before' photo...

She is settling in well with our other five dogs, and she loves the cats...  I'm not sure what Stella and Onray were looking at....

Ghost, cat number 10, turned up on our doorstep, very hungry but well kempt!.  I guess he either got dropped off, or re-homed himself.  Either way, he is the most adorable and playful young cat ever!

Jakey and Jenkins

Our beloved one-eyed Jake suddenly died a couple of weeks ago, and we still can't quite get used to him not being around.  Two days ago Jenkins arrived on the doorstep.  He has no tail but, he is a very happy little soul and has made himself very much at home!  guessing he was another 'drop off'.

Not Missing :O)

Thank you everyone - Guess who was looking at me this morning? My beloved black cat! I can not tell you how relieved I am! 48 hours of Abi panic is not good - I nearly hugged him to death! he of course wondered what all the fuss was about! I think you are right Yve - he has just turned into a mature cat, and I guess he found a girl to hang out with? who knows. It's just that he has never left the property before - and if I couldn't see him, one call and he'd be by my side! Jesse thought the same thing, but I didn't believe him! I have never owned cats before, and they are so independent aren't they? I'm intrigued to learn more about the October V black cat thing - is that to do with Halloween or something? he is totally black, with brilliant green eyes, and is the most lovable chap ever. I hoped that if I posted about my concerns, he would come back - it's worked so far - what with Doves healing extra quickly and learning to fly etc etc - must be due to everyone's prayers and good wishes! T H A N K Y O U :O) (now I feel a bit silly for over-reacting! :O)

Missing :O(

One of my once-apon-a-time stray cats (black cat) has gone missing :O( He has never left the property since he and his sister claimed me to be their owner just under a year ago! and now he is nowhere to be seen. His sister doesn't seem at all bothered... but me? I am devestated, and feel so sad. I just hope to god he is not injured or suffering anywhere, my worst nightmare quite frankly. As you can imagine - my mind is doing overtime on all the what ifs........

Ok, just before everyone tells me how wonderful this photo is... I did not take it! But, it does tell you that we successfully released our re-habilitated Dove today... and he flew up and away... lord, it was a magical and honoring exprience. I was waiting for the right time, and today felt like the right time....

Deena

Deena is the lovely cloth doll artist of Fabby Menargerie on Etsy and here is her blog fabby Dolls. And here is little Amy, my favorite ~

Last year Deena's 3 teen sons were diagnosed with Choroideremia. This is a rare eye disease that results in progressive, and eventual vision loss.. At this time, there is no treatment or cure for this disease. Shocking eh? I simply can not imagine how my life would be without my sight.

Deena has set up a fundraising site to donate to the Choroideremia Research Foundation. Any donation would be gratefully received - $1 makes a difference. I can't buy my favorite chocolate for $1!

A Dove

On Saturday, we found a Dove in the road, with a broken wing from a bullet. We expected he would not survive, but 5 days later, he is still with us. After numerous phone calls to wildlife centers etc, we were given no help apart from 'you need to kill him'. Yeah right, that's really going to happen. (if he was clearly suffering, then yes, that would be the best thing, but he doesn't appear to be)

The day after we picked up the Dove, we had to rescue a Cardinal with a broken wing, from one of our cats, but unfortunately, he didn't survive. A first time for everything.

Anway, does anyone have any experience with Doves? are we doing the right thing? he still can't fly, but he continues to hobble around ok. I have no clue if he is in pain, but having read a thousand sites about ill Doves, he appears to be in good health, apart from his wing. I have emailed a few Dove lovers for help, but as yet, haven't had a response. I'm worrying that he will be lonely? If he is able to fly again, then he will obviously be set free, until then, I think he needs a safe environment.

We think he is a male Mourning Dove, and he is called Coo! :O)

Halloween Challenge & Treasuries!

A sketch of where my thoughts are going with my ADO Challenge ~ not very far really! I'm trying so hard to make it Halloweeny, and the best I can come up with is a velvet pumkin handbag, a fancy corset and a venetian mask, and a grey silk coat with an orange lining!
